PAINTER/SCULPTOR
|
I was born and raised in and near Saskatoon, Saskatchewan and remained in that area until the spring of 1991. I grew up on a small acreage, one of a large family. As far back as I can remember, I would sit with my brothers and sisters around the large kitchen table, drawing or doing something creative. My mother was one of the most creative people I have known, and my father came from a family where art talent was abundant. In school, at age 11, 2 pieces of my art work were chosen for a world-wide tour of students' work, and traveled the world for two years. At age 14, I had my first commission for a portrait, and had won awards for my art. Growing up with animals and loving every minute of their company, and now living with my husband on our small farm, it is natural that this love comes out in my paintings and sculptures. Nothing brings me more pleasure than to portray an animal, and especially those magnificent horses, in a special way that brings out the uniqueness in each one. I believe our connection to everything in nature brings a message to each and every painting that I do, and if one of my pieces brings some emotion to your heart, then I have done my job. Though I do not have any formal training, I did take an art course by correspondence in 1983, working at night, when my two children were asleep. Through this, I received a Diploma of Art with Highest Honors. Later, I would take workshops and classes from any artists far and wide, and studied the techniques of historical painters on my own. Most recently I studied with the world-reknowned Lorenzo Ghiglieri, working in his sculpture studio and watching as he turned out those marvelous paintings in his well-equipped studio. Lorenzo taught me more than any formal education could have done about the romantic style of painting. My work has now been published in books and magazines, and is in private and corporate collections all over the world. If you would like to add any of my art works to your collection, please contact me to make the suitable arrangements. Please enjoy and feel free to contact me with questions and remarks - I always welcome communication. ~ Marti ~
